Designing a Business That Fuels You: Why Settle for Less?

January 08, 20243 min read

Hello, passionate entrepreneurs! Today, let’s challenge a common misconception in the business world – the idea that running your own business means constantly grinding through tasks you dislike. Yes, the early stages of entrepreneurship often involve wearing many hats, some of which might not be your favorites. But here’s the kicker – as a business owner, you have the unique power to shape your work into something that energizes you 100%. So why settle for anything less?

Why Aim for a 100% Energizing Business?

  1. Ownership Equals Freedom: Remember, one of the biggest perks of owning your business is the freedom to design it your way. If you have the opportunity to shape your work life, why not mold it into something that brings you joy and energy?

  2. Energy Equals Productivity: When you’re engaged and energized by your work, your productivity skyrockets. Tasks that align with your passions and strengths get done faster and better.

  3. Passion Fuels Persistence: Let’s face it, entrepreneurship is a marathon, not a sprint. When your daily work fuels you, you’re more likely to stay the course and overcome challenges.

Building Your Energy-Giving Business

  1. Identify What Energizes You: To build a business that energizes you, focus on identifying your passion, as guided by the 25 Mindsets Framework. This involves understanding what you're naturally drawn to and what you tend to avoid. Reflect on the activities that make you feel most alive and fulfilled - these are your passions. Conversely, recognizing the tasks you avoid can help you delegate or outsource them, making room for work that truly excites and motivates you.

For example - I have a Pathfinder mindset. This means the things that give me energy (thus motivates me) are:

  • Teaching people how to fish - helping others develop life skills and be self-sufficient.

  • Strengthening myself (and others) through learning, skill development, physical activity and healthy practices.

Since I’ve discovered how my mindset works, I’ve been shifting my business to align to this. It’s been transformative and very motivating!

For a more in-depth understanding of identifying your passion using the 25 Mindsets Framework, visit 25 Mindsets Framework.

  1. Delegate and Outsource: Not all tasks will be thrilling, and that’s okay. Delegate or outsource the energy-drainers. This way, every aspect of your business is handled with enthusiasm – by you or by someone who loves those tasks.

  2. Streamline for Efficiency: Use technology and systems to handle repetitive tasks. The less time you spend on mundane tasks, the more you can focus on what truly energizes you.

  3. Embrace Continuous Learning: Keep your business journey exciting by constantly learning new skills and exploring new areas. This keeps your work fresh and energizing.

  4. Balance Work and Personal Life: Energizing work is great, but burnout is a risk. Balance is key. Make sure you’re also taking time for personal rejuvenation.

  5. Align with Your Values: A business that reflects your personal values is inherently energizing. It feels less like work and more like a mission.

Why Settle for Less?

Why settle for a draining business when you can create an energizing one? Starting a business is hard work, but it’s also a blank canvas for you to create a work life that fills you with energy every day. So, let’s break the mold and build businesses that are not just successful, but also deeply fulfilling and energizing.

Here’s to transforming our entrepreneurial journeys into sources of daily inspiration and energy. Let's build not just businesses, but legacies that light us up!
